Distant Wounds.

Tonight
we are alone
balmy winds work to bring
us closer
in this sticky heat, we allow
our skins to quench
sultry wants

we lay together
our minds, our limbs
entwined, knotted
in a forever space
where hearts aren’t
for sale
only to be broken

you drift into a
hazy slumber and I notice
the delicacy of your lashes
the simple fragility in
your stillness compels
me to fall for your
vulnerability

it inspires the poet
in me
and, carefully
I write away the night
on the sizeable window
overlooking the coming sun
and the scattered decease
of the Moon

but as I write
I understand that
souls will be destroyed
and life will continue to progress –
we advertise our own
frailty, awaiting their adoration
with our hearts in shelf windows
only to fall and rupture the
glass ourselves

and with this, I distinguish the finality
the words off your glass are
wiped away, they are gone
and before you awake
so am I.
